Another thing I've been dwelling on....What about Geenwood Hollow Rd. from the school property to 23? Will it not have to be a three lane? With a left and right turn lanes onto 23, long turning lanes at that.
The increase in traffic will be staggering at that junction. Especially considering that lots of teenage drivers will be added to the traffic mix.
Is their any consideration given for that scenario? Any cost analysis? Any plans?

I would like to know how many of those opposed to or undecided about the issue have attended one of the town hall meetings. I have and I came away even stronger in favor.
I haven't gotten to attend, HB. My van is still snowed in. What did they say about the roads?

Why? Because a carefully chosen architectural firm, meaning one with a proven track record of school renovations and additions could provide a plan for effective remodeling and enhancement of the existing building.
There is nothing within that building that couldn't be enhanced or retrofitted in different construction and renovation phases.
The phases could be staggered to accomodate retrofit of piping, electrical, heating and AC as well as information systems. This could ALL be done with proper sequencing and phasing. It could also be done over the course of several different summers.
The cost of retrofit is historically less than rebuild (if asbestos is not involved). The site is already prepared, the utilities and information services are in place, the foundations are in, the building is up.
Retrofitting would simply require relocation of some classrooms by providing rental mobile classrooms while the retrofit occurs. Finish the renovated area, move the affected students back to the new area and then vacate another area and relocate those student to the mobile classrooms. It is done everywhere.

Is the school falling down or just overcrowded??? In Fairbanks (AK) when the school got overcrowded the people whined about needing a new school... The people voted it down and proposed splitting the day so half went early and half went later... The school sits from 4 in the afternoon till 8 am empty, well they filled the empty time and worked fine for several years until the growth was such they really did need a new school and then they got one...
