    Default Social media and Geekfest

Has social media diminished the usefulness of geekfest. I am guilty of not even looking on here for weeks at a time.

My take is that the 30-40 or so active members who have passed away the last few years, who were daily contributers and thread starters is the reason things are slow here. New members weren't joining to replace them. Also, the Trump election alienated some members after it became a hate-fest here for awhile.

Geekfest is a special, one of a kind venue. But inactivity sort of forced folks to turn to social media. I'm sure others may disagree, and that's fine, but seriously... there were dozens of regulars transitioning on to their next lives, in a relatively short time.

I wrote this on another thread a couple days ago:

I guess Facebook has just simply taken over. Plus, some folks got a little pissy about I don't know what and left, some said that they couldn't access their account and weren't able to sign in because of a bad password.
Whatever the deal, I miss the camaraderie that we shared, along with the awesome opinionated and feisty conversations.

Funny thing - there's a lot of folks in Eureka that still call me DaBee!

I do appreciate Kim and Kendra still allowing us to be here. Thanks, y'all!

I usually log in daily but there is not much to comment about. I post every once in a while to keep from being flagged as a lurker.
One thing that bothers me is all the new weird user names signing up and never posting (at least two a day), then when I look at their profile it tells me I don't have permission to see it. WTF pretty sure that is a sign of bots trying to mine information.

Could be but there are 6 of them registering right now so I doubt it.

I logged on and tried posting for a short while, but was put off by some of the sharp and critical comments made by what seemed like just a few people, but they were very off-putting. I was looking more for a healthy and interesting exchange of ideas and observations, but it seemed to be more of the pig in the mud environment.

Oh my god, DaBee -- You are one of the sweethearts -- even when you're worked up about something, lol! I don't know for sure, but I think the people who were so negative may no longer be around..... I've checked into Geekfest intermittently, and no one seemed to be trying to be an asshole -- seemed to be a more productive and engaged dialogue going on.
