    Default Burn Ban

A BURN BAN is now in effect for Carroll County. All outdoor burning is prohibited. The ban will remain in effect until it is lifted by the county judge.

How odd that as of this morning the burn ban is still in effect. Ark Forestry Commission shows the entire state as low wildfire danger, and Carroll as the only county with a ban.

Disclosure: Yes, I do have a brush pile and a ditch that need (controlled) burning.

I hope the burn ban remains so that it may cause Fire on the Mountain to be cancelled.

Looking at various Weather Underground weather stations around the county, rainfall for the last week ranges from 4” in Busch and 1.5” in Holiday Island to 3/4” or less in the eastern part of the county (Grandview, Berryville, Green Forest), with a station on Onyx Cave road showing only 0.39”. The judge has to take into account conditions throughout the county. There are still some areas that are pretty dry.

The burn ban was lifted early this afternoon. Please be very careful when burning outdoors.

Yup. Too hot & dry too. But I’m just the messenger. Not the decision maker. Although I might have to deal with the consequences of the decision.

Firework season is upon us too...

Definitely too windy today. With the hot, sunny, dry conditions predicted for the next week, I think the window of opportunity is still closed. My ditch will have to remain weedy for the duration, I think.
